M.I.A. - "O...Saya"
I just picked up the soundtrack to the phenomenal film Slumdog Millionaire and I must say that M.I.A.'s track is outstanding. Overall, the soundtrack is as brilliant as the movie is.
And in some shocking news, Slumdog Millionaire just won four Golden Globes tonight, including Best Motion Picture (Drama). I absolutely love this movie so I am really happy for Danny Boyle & Co.

Well well well, Texas. I'm shocked. My father tipped me off to the radio station KROX (101.5FM) broadcasting straight from Austin, Texas. Well, I guess KROX has an electro show called Hypersonic Radio.
And goddamn. Goddamn.
They have solid DJs playing some of the best electro sets I have heard in awhile. And they killed it with Soulwax's remix "Kids" by MGMT.
I was sad to see Live105 lose the groundbreaking Sixx Mixx that was hosted by Party Ben, one of the best mashup DJs around. But it's nice to know that long-form mixes still live on terrestrial radio stations.

Have You Heard 004: Taken By Trees
0 comments Published by RVR on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:39 PMI was watching the trailer for the remake of Wes Craven's seminal film The Last House On The Left and as my brain was about to explode because it is a senseless remake that I highly doubt will have the bite of the original (sorry, I wrote a term paper on this movie) I heard the most particular thing...
A really lovely cover of Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine." And I am not talking about that abomination of a song that Sheryl Crow did. God no.
Taken By Trees is also known as Victoria Bergsman, the lead singer of The Concretes and the female voice in Peter Bjorn & John's "Young Folks." After leaving The Concretes in 2006, she has been working on her solo project and in 2007, Taken By Trees released Open Field.
If you like cutesy Swedish indie music or if you want to take a break from Katy Perry's goddamn assault on your eardrums, give Taken By Trees a listen.

Uzi & Ari - "Asleep in Armor"
I am on a one-woman mission to make sure everyone hears this band. Uzi & Ari just came out with their third CD, Headworms, and it's better than about 90% of the crap I hear on MTV.
THEY'RE FROM SALT LAKE CITY. They shouldn't be this cool. Have you ever been to Salt Lake? Don't go there. But I mean, if you do (which I warned you against) then go find Uzi & Ari and shake their hand for making consistently beautiful twee pop music.

I'll admit..I was a little late on this. Just a little. But all's well because after much protest, I have finally listened to Foals' new album Antidotes and it's pretty damn good.
"Olympic Airways" makes me want to dance and even though I have NO idea what the hell the song is about right now, I can't help but want to get together a group of 10 to 15 stylishly dressed indie kids and chant the lyrics.
Yeah, I'm kind of obsessed with it. And you should be too.

138: I resolve to be...irresolute.
1 comments Published by RVR on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 7:02 PMTechnology is a glorious thing. Here I am on the Megabus to New York City and I have internet access. What's next? Hover cars? Pretty soon Skynet will be capping humans left and right and I'll just be sitting in a basement with a soldering iron and my capacity to fry electronics.
But that's not the point.
It's December 30th and it's time for some New Year's Resolutions!
#1: Read. You know, for class.
I really tried. I sort of read some things. It's just that reading for class is pointless. I dare you to argue with that.
#2: Go to SXSW.
Now that I am 21, I can fully enjoy all that Austin has to offer by way of South By Southwest. I don't want to go anywhere else for Spring Break. Hell, I already have a plane ticket on Southwest Airlines waiting for me. So come March, I am going to be rocking out to bands and in a coma due to Texas BBQ and the finest margaritas outside of Mexico. God I miss Texas.
#3: Grow my hair out.
I've been really good at this one! I haven't cut my hair since September. Now, blame that on poverty or choice but at least I haven't given in to the insatiable urge to "style" my own hair.
#4: Complete a script that IS NOT an assignment for Screenwriting 2.
I've already started one and I like it a lot. The trouble with me is that I never finish anything. Upon my death, the police/landlord/person who looks in the dumpster I'm in will discover that I am a prolific writer...of three page scripts.
#5: [Get ready to laugh.] Go to the gym.
AHAHHAHAHA! See it's funny because I so won't. It's not that I hate working out, I just hate the gym. It's a weird concept to me. However, I must admit that there is some part of me that misses exercise. I miss running! So perhaps I will actually put a foot inside of FitRec this semester.
#6: Be a better friend. Or just stop being a recluse.
I sure do love my alone time. Maybe a little too much. Unless you trick me with promises of food or movies, chances are you will only see me in passing on the street. I realize that no friendship can be based on that kind of connection. I'll admit that I've done a disservice to a lot of people this past semester by not being around. So I'll try to make it up to them by actually hanging out for once.
#7: I can haz Springfest?
Springfest will be epic. EPIC. So epic that if it was a movie, it would be 300. Yeah. Slow-mo and Nine Inch Nails, baby.
#8: Get "that job" back.
I know I left it. I know I should probably not do it since it'll be my senior year. But I figure I should go out with a bang. Every day someone tells me about how I should have never left. And after being away, I'm beginning to agree.
#9: WTBUWTBUWTBUWTBU
I will not rest until every damn kid on BU's campus knows about WTBU. Will. Not. Rest.
#10: Realize that 21+ means that you don't have to be scared of everything.
21+ is uncharted territory, as I am constantly discovering. So I have to find a happy yet responsible medium between working hard and playing hard, between being young and having to grow up just a little, and between being freespirited and just being a flake.
SOUNDS LIKE:
Doves + early U2 (circa Boy)

Great video by Tony Kaye (American History X) starring Sienna Miller....even if I hate that bitch.

Crazy things are happening in the world of Chicago politics. Governor Blagojevich (D) was arrested this morning on corruption charges after allegations that he tried to sell Barack Obama's former senate seat to the highest bidder.
It goes to show that douchebags can exist in all political parties.
So here's to you, Gov.
May your public shaming, eventual impeachment proceedings, and hopeful imprisonment teach you a lesson.
